Stallions end homestand

The Madera South girls soccer team faced two-time defending Div. I champ Buchanan-Clovis on Monday night, it marked the third consecutive home match for the Stallions.

Each of those games at Memorial Stadium posed unique challenges for Stallions head coach Patrick Evans and his players.

While it wasn’t tough for the Stallions (5-3) to get up for the match with the Bears and to try to prove themselves against a perennial contender from the soccer power Tri-River Athletic Conference, Madera South also had to focus on lower tier teams Sunnyside-Fresno and Washington Union-Easton during its home stand.

“Our schedule is very tough, so when we have games like this where the opponents aren’t renowned Valley championship contenders, those are the teams that we need to hammer and we did,” Evans said. “But we’re not being misled by those scores with Buchanan and Central-Fresno on our schedule. Those are two of the top-ranked Div. I teams and that’s where you’re really measured.” ...
